About
Choice USA:
As a national pro-choice
organization, Choice USA gives emerging leaders the tools they need to
organize, network, and exchange ideas to build a youth-centered pro-choice
agenda and mobilize communities for reproductive freedom. Choice USA is
dedicated to the right of each person worldwide to decide when and if they will
have sex, when and if they will be pregnant, and when and if they will have a
child. In order to make those personal decisions, accurate information and
safe, legal reproductive health services must be available to everyone.
The Field Director is responsible
for managing and overseeing all aspects of the Field Department, including:
institute, training, and campaign planning, scheduling and execution;
budgeting; and communications and staff management, The Field Director builds
relations with organizational allies and partners, identifies emerging leaders,
and ensures the smooth and continuous execution of field operations.
Specific Responsibilities
Include:
- Manage
and train the field staff including regional and campaign organizers,
training staff, and field interns, hire additional staff as needed;
- Provide
on-ground field support to regional staff and Choice USA chapters;
- Create,
facilitate, and direct overall strategies for Choice USA organizing
campaigns;
- Lead
trainings and workshops, and represent Choice USA at conferences and
events;
- Maintain
detailed records of training curricula, campaign progress, and victories;
- Build
relationships with potential local and national coalition partners;
- Maintain
already established relationships with Choice USA Chapters and Associated
Organizations;
- Seek
out opportunities for developing new chapters, leaders and partnerships;
- Set
departmental budget priorities; and
- Set
criteria for field involvement in outside events and conferences.
Desired Qualifications:
- A
commitment to the mission and values of Choice USA;
- Minimum
2 years of college matriculation;
- A
minimum of 3 years of campus and non-campus community based direct action
organizing experience;
- Understanding
the need to integrate technology into organizing campaigns;
- Knowledge
of state and national legislative issues around reproductive health and
rights;
- Ability
to manage volunteers, interns, and paid staff;
- Strong
communication skills (oral and written)—ability to write field reports,
campaign outlines, and action alerts—and strong public speaking skills;
- Knowledge
of regional issues and cultural variations;
- Flexibility
in being able to adapt in rapidly changing environments;
- Must
be able to travel at least two weeks per month;
- Driver’s
License required;
- Leadership
development experience; and
- Coalition
building experience.

in Washington, D.C.
or office in Oakland,
CA. This position reports directly to the Executive Director.
