Job Description

District Representatives have two primary areas of responsibility:

Constituent Service – Work with constituents to resolve problems related to federal agencies.  Respond to inquiries, maintain regular contact with constituents and agency officials, and advocate on behalf of constituents’ interests.  Responsibility is assigned according to federal agency and topic area.  Candidates must have strong writing, listening, speaking, and organizational skills; motivation to help people; patience and a sense of humor.

District Awareness and Outreach – Develop pro-active initiatives based on issues critical to New Jersey and the 44 municipalities comprising the 12th Congressional District.  This includes responding to community-based efforts, learning about events and issues, developing working relationships with constituents, and finding ways for Rep. Holt to be of assistance.  Activities include setting-up and attending local events on one’s own.  Responsibility is assigned according to geographic area and issue area.

In addition to these two main areas of responsibility, each District Representative is expected to staff and attend community events with the Congressman, and to contribute to all other aspects of the District Office’s operations.
