Job Title: National Telephone Outreach Project Director 

Description: Fund for the Public Interest (The Fund) is a national, nonprofit organization working to raise money and increase visibility, membership and political power for the nation’s leading environmental and progressive groups. 
We are looking for an experienced, innovative and ambitious candidate to oversee the Fund’s National Telephone Outreach Project (TOP), which raises $4 - $6 million dollar annually for 60+ Public Interest Network groups, including USPIRG, Environment America, Environmental Action, Progressive Future and Green Corps.

The National TOP Director will have several major priorities guiding their work in the near future. These priorities are: 
• Designing and implementing new strategies to overcome challenges in today’s telephone fundraising environment, including reaching more people in the age of cell phones and caller ID. 
• Developing prospecting and list-building models and techniques to expand the amount and types of calling. 
• Experimenting with changes to the model to improve performance. These experiments would include but not be limited to the areas of caller pay and policies, TOP Director job descriptions, campaign development and management, and caller training and management. 

The National TOP Director’s responsibilities are to: 

• Recruit, train and supervise 11 full-time staff, including TOP Directors and National staff; oversee the work of more than 100 part-time callers out of 3 TOP call centers. 

• Set fundraising and membership goals and manage the project to meet them. 

• Analyze and improve fundraising results and report regularly to partner groups and senior staff. 

• Develop fundraising messages and calling raps; consult with group directors and other Fund departments to choose the most compelling fundraising campaigns. Pay attention to news and trends to keep messages compelling and current. 

• Create and maintain budgets: spend wisely to maximize fundraising net and reduce costs. 

• Build membership and deepen support: identify new strategies for expanding our membership and increasing donor giving by working with group directors, our Membership Services staff and outside consultants. 

• Oversee all administrative functions related to fundraising, membership development, campaign work and office management 

• Work with other Citizen Outreach Departments within the Fund for the Public Interest to identify and implement best practices and new developments for citizen outreach and fundraising. 

The National TOP Director reports to the Director of Citizen Outreach for the Fund for the Public Interest. The National TOP Director oversees the Assistant National TOP Director, the National TOP Administrative Assistant, and TOP Directors based in Boston, Sacramento, and Portland, OR. 

Job Qualifications: 

o Demonstrated commitment to environmental protection and social change. 

o 8 or more years of relevant professional experience, and a proven track record of running a large project or department. 

o Experience with large scale fundraising project and familiarity with telephone outreach technology preferred. 


• Exemplary skills and experience in fundraising as well as management and training of part-time, full-time, entry level and experienced staff...

• High level of aptitude with numerical analysis and Microsoft Excel. 

• Strong writing skills and ability to relate to members and callers and translate policy goals into effective fundraising raps.
