Job: New England Regional Field Organizer; Marine Conservation Education Program

Background:

The National Environmental Trust is a not-for-profit organization providing public education campaign expertise and communication services on national environmental issues.  NET works with local organizations and individuals in many states on multiple issues.

America’s oceans are in trouble and need our help.  NET’s campaign to Conserve Our Ocean Legacy is addressing overfishing, bycatch, pollution, mismanagement and habitat destruction that have impoverished our ocean resources, and have caused over 90% of the worlds large fish to disappear.  In New England, nine commercially valuable fish stocks are currently subject to overfishing while numerous others show signs of precipitous decline.

Description:

NET is seeking a regional organizer to educate the media, public, organizations, policymakers and community leaders about marine conservation problems and solutions.  The organizer will be based in New England and will be expected to travel frequently to select communities in neighboring states, as well as Washington, DC.

Job Requirements:

Candidates must have excellent verbal and interpersonal skills and be able to travel extensively within the region.  A successful candidate will be organized, outgoing, and have good writing skills.  Past experience in issue advocacy, political campaigns, media relations, and/or grassroots organizing is required.  Familiarity with fishing or oceans communities is an advantage.

Compensation is commensurate with qualifications.
