DESCRIPTION
Title: Managing Director
Job Status: Exempt, Regular, Full time
The Managing Director has lead responsibility for organizational
development, systems management and fund development, with major shared
responsibility for program management. In
this role, she or he ensures that we operate as a high performance organization
that balances strategic program development with financial sustainability. The Managing Director also acts as a project
manager and/or campaign manager for assigned program work.
Major Responsibilities
1. Coordinate
organizational development work, assisting the Executive Director with staff
& board development, strategic planning and annual program planning
2. Cultivate and maintain organizational systems
that support critical program functions such as work planning, program
evaluation, contact management, budget management, etc.
3. Actively
help the senior staff team ensure consistent high quality program management
4. Plan,
manage and coordinate all major fund development activities with staff and
volunteers
5. Act as project manager and/or campaign
manager for specified program work

Reporting and Authority
The Managing Director reports to the Executive Director and coordinates closely with the Associate Director and Organizing Director. The Managing Director has delegated authority to implement approved plans and make implementation decisions related to organizational development, systems management and fund development. The Managing Director will consult with the Executive Director before deviating from approved plans or making decisions that significantly affect program management, resource allocations or other team members. The Managing Director will analyze options and make recommendations for decision by the Executive Director on major policy questions and proposed goals, plans and budgets.
Qualifications
At least five years experience in organizational development and fund development in nonprofit organizations. Strong organizational and/or program management experience. Excellent proven capacity in all aspects of work planning and project management. Excellent attention to details and follow through. Outstanding ability to work effectively in teams of diverse people and organizations. Strong organizational, communications, computer, problem-solving and analytical skills. Highly self motivated and directed. Proven commitment to progressive values and social change. Knowledge of environmental public health issues and solutions desirable.
Physical requirements include ability to spend hours listening and talking; working via computer, telephone and other electronic devices; driving frequently to meetings and events; light lifting of equipment and materials, with occasional night or weekend work, long days and overnight travel.
