Development Director/Program Associate

We are seeking a development professional to assist the Rose Foundation in increasing its support from all streams of revenue.  In addition to helping develop and diversify the Foundation’s funding, the position also entails assisting in administering grant awards to other community-based organizations.

About the Rose Foundation

The Rose Foundation is a grantmaking public charity dedicated to encouraging community involvement in environmental stewardship and nurturing positive interactions between communities, the environment and the economy.  The Foundation’s work emphasizes building community power and encouraging corporate and government accountability.  Its  environmental, consumer protection, fiscal sponsorship and donor-advised grantmaking programs annually award approximately $2 million.  The Foundation also conducts national advocacy programs related to sustainable investing, and is developing New Voices Are Rising, an environmental justice and civic engagement program for West Oakland youth.    The office is 2 blocks from the Rockridge BART station in Oakland, California.

Job Summary

The Development Director/Program Associate’s primary responsibility (80% FTE) is to oversee all aspects of fundraising activities at the Rose Foundation, including work with foundations and individual donors.  He or she will create and implement the Foundation’s fund development plan in consultation with the Executive Director and President.  The balance of the position (20% FTE) will involve grantmaking, research, or program assistance. The position reports to the Executive Director and works collaboratively with other staff on fundraising activities.

Specific Job Responsibilities

Fundraising (80% FTE)

• Annual Fund -- Manage all elements of the organization's annual giving program, including newsletter, donor letters, and acknowledgements.  Also identify and implement strategies to increase the number of donors supporting Rose Foundation activities, including through house parties.

• Major Donors -- Work with staff and board in developing a major gifts program to support Rose Foundation activities.

• Foundations -- Manage all foundation fundraising in support of Rose Foundation's projects, including identifying prospects, proposal and report writing.

• Marketing-- Create and disseminate marketing material on Rose Foundation's services, including its donor advised fund services, and its grant program supported by court-ordered restitution settlement funds. 

Program Associate (20% FTE)

• Grantmaking -- Assist in the grantmaking process, including screening proposals, analyzing grantee progress reports, and helping to write and prepare grant recommendations.

• Assist Funding Advisory Boards -- Provide logistical support to Grassroots, Consumer Protection and other funding advisory boards.

• Program Assistance -- Help other staff in research and or writing projects.

Qualifications

• Three to five years experience in fundraising, preferably for an environmental or social justice advocacy organization.

• Demonstrated success in identifying, cultivating and soliciting large grants and donations.

• Exceptional writing skills and verbal communication skills required; database experience strongly preferred; familiarity with spreadsheet, graphics and web design programs beneficial.

• Ability to work independently.

• Sincere commitment to social justice, environmental protection and community engagement.

• Sense of humor essential.

• Associate degree required.  Undergraduate degree strongly preferred.

Compensation
 $45,000 - $60,000 salary commensurate with experience.  Benefits include health, dental, vision, and 401k, and generous vacation package.
