Dena MottolaExpertise: health care, air pollution, renewable energy and energy efficiency, water pollution, oceans, drilling/off-shore drilling, consumer issues

Background: Ms. Mottola has been Executive Director of Environment New Jersey since 2006, and before that was Executive Director of NJPIRG from 2003 until 2006. She leads environmental campaigns, and is responsible for coordinating policy development, research, and legislative advocacy. She has served as an organizer and spokesperson on several legislative and administrative advocacy efforts, including the successful New Jersey Clean Cars Act in 2004 and the Save Our Waterways effort to win special protective designation for 45 waterways in 2002 and 2003. Ms. Mottola has authored several reports, including "The Public Health Impact of Air Pollution," "The Watershed Health Report Card," and "The Consumer Case Against Exelon’s Proposed Takeover of PSEG." 

She has testified before the state legislature on the contribution of automobiles to air pollution, and restoration of the New Jersey Office of Public Advocate. She has appeared on ABC Philadelphia, the New Jersey News Network, and has written educational pieces and opinion pieces featured in the Star Ledger and other New Jersey media outlets. She serves as board member with Consumers for Civil Justice, the Work Environment Council, the nation’s leading blue green labor/environment coalition, and Tri-State Transportation Campaign. Prior to joining NJPIRG as a Clean Water Advocate in 2000, she worked as a community organizer and consumer health care advocate.

Ms. Mottola is also the Director for Environment New Jersey Research & Policy Center, the 501(c)(3) sister organization of Environment New Jersey.
