Background: Mr. O'Malley coordinates the field work for all Environment New Jersey campaigns. He recently spearheaded NJPIRG’s work to pass a successful ballot measure that will reduce diesel soot emissions by roughly 10 percent over the next decade, removing more than 400 tons of pollution from the air annually.
Prior to serving as field director, Mr. O’Malley was NJPIRG’s environmental advocate, advancing progressive policies on water supply, air and drinking water quality, and land use issues related to development. He also previously directed an effort to increase protection for the state’s pristine waterways from uncontrolled development.
Mr. O'Malley has authored several reports, including Rivers in Danger: The Impact of Development on Water Quality and Strengthening New Jersey’s Antidegradation Regulations, and testified before the New Jersey Legislature and state agencies on diesel pollution, water quality and supply, drinking water issues and regional planning initiatives. He has appeared in The New York Times and the Star Ledger. He also has appeared on WNBC in New York and NJN. He is a member of the Diesel Pollution Coalition, which includes local and state air pollution leaders, and is one of the founding members of the Save New Jersey Coalition, a group of 40 plus environmental, housing, urban and labor activists focused on repealing pro-sprawl state legislation.
