Emily Rusch
Consumer Advocate, California Public Interest Research Group (CALPIRG)
(415) 622-0039 x307 ·

Expertise: social security, energy efficiency, tax and budget policy, consumer protections

Background: Ms. Rusch directs CALPIRG’s programs to lower the high costs of energy and to ensure California’s state budget meets the needs of citizen taxpayers instead of wealthy corporate interests.  She advocates in the state legislature and before other decision makers at the state level on tax and budget policy, affordable energy, and consumer issues.

Prior to joining the CALPIRG staff in 2005, Ms. Rusch worked for four years as the energy advocate for NJPIRG where she oversaw successful campaigns to increase the state’s clean energy requirements for power companies and to pass legislation to set minimum energy efficiency standards for common products. While she was there, she authored several reports, including Renewables Work: Job Growth from Renewable Energy Development in the Mid-Atlantic and Global Warming Pollution in New Jersey: Key Steps to Reduce Emissions from Electricity Generation and Transportation.

Education: B.A., Willamette University, 2001
