Frank Gorke

Expertise: auto pollution, transportation, global warming, air pollution, energy policy, energy efficiency, renewable energy, nuclear energy, radioactive waste, and utility rates / deregulation
Background: Mr. Gorke is the director of Environment Massachusetts. He directs
statewide campaigns including efforts to clean up dirty sources of
electricity, promote clean and renewable power, and protect and reinvest
in the Commonwealth's forests, parks and beaches. He recently
spearheaded Environment Massachusetts' successful effort to set improved
efficiency standards. He is currently working to reduce global warming
pollution from power plants in Massachusetts and to improve policies
that spur the development of cleaner energy sources such as solar and
wind power. He has co-authored and advised on several reports
including More Heat than Light: Global Warming Pollution from The
Northeast's Dirtiest Power Producers and
"A Blueprint for Action: Policy Options to Reduce Massachusetts'
Contribution to Global Warming.
Mr. Gorke has testified before the state legislature on energy
efficiency, renewable power, and electricity deregulation issues. He
has appeared on New England Cable News and Boston area
network television, and he has been quoted in local, state, and regional
newspapers including The Boston Globe and The Boston Herald. Mr. Gorke
also served as coordinator of the New England Climate Coalition from
2003 to 2007. He began his public interest career with Green Corps, the field school for environmental organizing, and began directing
Environment Massachusetts after working with the Toxics Action Center in Connecticut and MASSPIRG in Boston. He graduated with honors from
Harvard College in 1999.
