Matthew Davis

Expertise: water quality, oceans, air pollution, power plants, auto pollution, renewable energy, energy efficiency, toxic waste
Background: Mr. Davis oversees and assists the state groups in ME, NH, IA, and GA that are part of U.S. PIRG. Prior to his focus on building strong organizations, Mr. Davis successfully worked on statewide campaigns to set a state goal for producing 10 percent more renewable energy by 2018, secure funds for wastewater treatment improvements, and curb global warming emissions from cars and power plants. Mr. Davis led Environment Maine's successful initiative to get two of the largest agribusinesses in the state, Cherryfield Foods and Jasper Wyman and Son, to stop aerial pesticide spraying. Mr. Davis has authored several reports, including "Off the Hook: Why Maine Needs Tough Penalties to Protect Its Waters," "Ready to Roll: The Benefits of Today’s Advanced Technology Vehicles for Maine" and "Redirecting Iowa's Energy."
He has testified before the Maine Legislature on the environmental bond package and energy efficiency issues. He has appeared on the news programs for the local affiliates of ABC, CBS, and NBC exposing bacterial contamination at beaches, and has been featured on National Public Radio's "Morning Edition" and the cover of Mainebiz. He serves on Toxics Action Center's Maine Advisory Board.
Prior to founding Environment Maine and the Environment Maine Research & Policy Center in 2003, Mr. Davis was the Federal Field Organizer in New England for U.S. PIRG, the federation of state PIRGs and affiliated Environment groups.
